Postbox — Awesome Email. I was never really enthusiastic about Thunderbird, so the announcement that it would no longer be developed didn't bother me much. But the fact that Sparrow now belongs to Google and, according to the announcements, nothing more is to be expected from it, really annoyed me - it was one of the faster clients for gmail and also had usable feature support for it. The Apple Mail client is rather stiff in comparison. Postbox claims to support gmail features, so it might be worth a try if Sparrow can no longer be used reliably due to bit rot.
Xcode 4.3 MacRuby compatible problem workaround - 東 . Blog. Annoying, but necessary - the AppStore migration of XCode has broken the template installation of MacRuby, so that even with the new MacRuby (0.11 with support for XCode 4.2 and 4.3 is out) the templates do not work right away and the integration with Interfacebuilder does not work. With the instructions here it works again.
MonoMac and XCode 4
Ouch, that really got me - I wanted to play with the GUI tools, but MonoMac doesn't fully support XCode 4 yet and only has this to say:
Developers that use Interface Builder are recommended to install Xcode 3.2.6 for the time being. MonoTouch News.
The bad part: that's from March. That's way too long without support, so MonoMac is just half a tool (if at all). Running XCode 3 and XCode 4 in parallel is also not an option (both want to be in the same folder). De facto, you're either stuck with XCode 3, or MonoMac is out. Or you build your GUI with GTK# - then XCode doesn't matter (the compiler part of XCode 4 is supported), but then you can forget about the AppStore (and GTK# doesn't really look great). Damn.
Downfall scenario. Never trust an infographic you haven't faked yourself - that's probably what the manager magazine thought when presenting the "evidence" that Apple is investing less in research and thus jeopardizing its future viability - while R&D expenses in Cupertino have increased, but in the representation in relation to the even more increased revenue, it then looks appropriately inappropriate. Only blogged here because probably again a lot of people will feel the need to tell me with the graphic why Apple would be bad.
