Collected Old Black and White Pictures

Somehow, these have never been connected to a post as far as I can see, so I'm just linking and collecting everything here for completeness and posting it.

Cat Content

The Schockwellenreiter has recently shown the way, and I really can't resist the essential cat content in the blog world anymore. Health.

Beef Roulades

Yes, very simple, just beef roulades. With homemade filling, of course. The ingredients are quite simple, actually the hardest part is waiting for the long cooking time:

  • 4 beef roulades from the butcher (I don't know how to get the quantities for less, besides, 4 fit well in my pot)
  • 125g diced bacon
  • 5 small pickles (vinegar or even spicy seasoned, but better not the salty ones)
  • one thicker onion
  • two cloves of garlic
  • marjoram and rosemary as spices
  • sharp mustard
  • 500ml beef broth, red wine and tomato paste for the sauce (and the wine to drink with the meal)

The roulades are spread with mustard, then the filling (bacon, diced pickles, onions, garlic, spices) is placed on top, then rolled up and fixed with roulade clamps or kitchen string. Then the roulades are seared on all sides in the pot. Put the lid on the pot in between, because then more of the juice stays liquid and it doesn't splash all the time so terribly. Once the roulades are browned all around, remove them from the pot, set them aside somewhere, then stir the fond with the red wine, a little tomato paste and the broth. Bring the whole thing back to a boil, then put the roulades back into the soup and let it simmer for 1.5 hours. Remove the roulades and thicken the juice in the pot with Mondamin for the sauce. We also had leftovers from the vegetables last time, it also goes well with noodles or rice or potatoes or whatever you like with it.

Carnival. And now please take off the paper noses, okay?

Juliana has never experienced anything like this before, so we went to the Rosenmontag parade in Münster. I have no idea when I last attended a carnival parade, it must have been over 30 years ago. Well, fortunately, the parade in Münster is largely staffed by Dutch carnivalists, otherwise it would have been quite boring and colorless. And you shouldn't expect current political comments - in Münster, no one had to change the carnival float because of a (former) federal president.

Aaseevergnügen

Inspired by the Alstervergnügen in Hamburg, we had our Aaseevergnügen today. Okay, it lasted a few days longer, and there were no sausage stalls or beer stands directly at the Aasee (although, as seen in the pictures, some Münster residents tried to set up), but there was definitely a lot going on. No surprise with this weather. And yes, I even dared to go out.

Back from Amsterdam

Back from the course, lost my mind and a few things in my notebook bag, which a Dutch car thief took with him when he broke into our car (no, not the mind, it just suffered in the three weeks before). Well. Life sucks sometimes.

Nice Impressions

Pictures from the Microsoft Dynamics AX Congress in Nice. Okay, not actually pictures from the congress, but more of Nice. Palms, Mediterranean flair, the Mediterranean Sea, and big yachts. Unfortunately, it was mostly dark, but that has never stopped me from taking pictures.

Men's toys in Nice

Extra post for extra cars. They were just standing there one day in front of the convention center. We didn't really understand why - at the time there was some kind of local assembly or something, but in addition, there were hordes of uniformed people around, the cars were there, lots of police. Maybe some regional bigwig was there and he was a classic car fan. The cars were nice to look at anyway.

Autumn Walk

Autumn has been at work for quite some time, but today the weather was really beautiful, so I took a longer walk around the Aasee and the Schlossgarten and took some photos. A small selection is attached, I just love the colors in the autumn sun. The walk ended with delicious Turkish food at Frauenstraße 24. The photos were taken with the Leica M8.

Another Visit to Hamburg

The weather wasn't the best, so it was dry and not too cold, but unfortunately the sky was rather averse to photography - only milky mush in the sky. Never mind, still took photos and still had fun. The spice museum is really great, especially because of the smells. The Cap San Diego is interesting, albeit somewhat meager (the engine room is of course great, but with the cabins only a few are visible and the whole thing is rather sparse, they could make more of it). The exhibition "A Suitcase Full of Hope" is interesting, although it consists of 90% of set-up cardboard walls with printing. So much reading is in order. And the evening at the landing bridges is for me always a nice finish.

And once again it was sent ...

Not much to write about, everyone knows it and it's not the first time in the blog here. But the weather was nice and Juliana wanted to go, so why not. It was cold. And colorful. And loud.

John Lee Hooker Jr. in the Hot Jazz Club

Pictures from the concert tonight. It was an absolutely fantastic concert, the place was packed and the atmosphere was great. The musicians put on an impressive show. And as it happened, we had a table right in front of the stage, there was nothing between us and the musicians. Accordingly, the pictures turned out that way.

It's been a while since I last uploaded my Flickr photos to the blog. Here they are - unsorted and uncommented. So the colorful ones. Ok, and a few toned black and white images (the automatic script does not recognize them as monochrome).

Trip to Norderney

Juliana and I decided to go to Norderney quite spontaneously today - not for long, just a short detour, to dip our feet in the North Sea and eat a shrimp roll, to go on a ship on the sea again, see seals, watch seagulls - all that stuff that only works up there. It was a beautiful day and the weather mostly cooperated. From Münster, it's quite easy to get there by train - and you can book the ship at the same time.

Charity Concert for East Africa Hunger Relief

Today there was a concert by Millima Mabonde (Gospel choir from Nordwalde and Altenberge) and the brass group St. Sebastian from Nienberge. Since my sister sings in the Gospel choir, we were there again. It was a very beautiful concert, lots of fun.

Dalienkorso in Legden

Over the weekend, we were in Legten at the Dalienkorso - I had coincidentally noticed that it fell exactly at the end of my mother-in-law's visit, so we naturally took the opportunity. After all, it only happens every 3 years. The decorated floats were truly impressive again. Everyone had fun, even though the weather wasn't entirely cooperative and it rained intermittently (and it poured heavily towards the end).

Trip to Bremen

A small collection of photos from our trip to Bremen. Nothing special - mainly because I had the camera set to 3200 ISO, and only noticed this at home. As a result, the images are more noisy than I would like, and the dynamic range was also a bit limited. But it's impressive how the NEX-3 saved me even with such a mistake.

Red Berry Pudding

Red Berry Pudding Recently, Juliana and I ate Rote Grütze - and I had an urgent desire to make Rote Grütze myself afterwards. On Wednesday's market, we bought a lot of berries and this morning I stood at the stove.

The whole thing is quite simple actually. And it just tastes delicious. What goes in:

  • a jar of cherries (I had a 500ml jar, 375g fruit)
  • top up to 750g - 800g with fresh fruits (we had blackberries, blueberries, and red currants)
  • 50g sugar (those who prefer it sweeter can go up to 100g sugar)
  • we also had half a packet of vanilla sugar
  • the juice of half a lemon
  • about 50-60g sago (you can also use neutral starch)

The preparation itself is also quite simple:

  1. boil the juice from the cherries together with the lemon juice in a pot
  2. add about 1/3 of the fruits to the boiling juice and bring to a boil
  3. stir in the sugar and sago
  4. turn down the heat and let it simmer for about 30 minutes with frequent stirring (the sago grains should ideally all be clear and no longer stand out light - I stopped a bit too early, it might be easier with regular starch)
  5. when the pudding is nice and thick and the sago is clear, add the remaining fruits and simmer for 5 minutes
  6. then fill the pudding into bowls, let it cool, and put it in the fridge
  7. serve with vanilla ice cream (that's what we had today) or vanilla sauce, or cream, or even just some milk

The pudding becomes so firm and thick, just as I remember it, not as thin as you often get it - it's really more of a pudding and not a soup. And if you have a bottle of red wine open, you can also cook the red wine well with the pudding (but a glass of red wine is really enough).

Mystical Creatures

Pictures from the Gimbter Kleinkunstmarkt - some of the more normal versions can be seen on Flickr. I just played around with the presets and some more exotic settings in Lightroom. I need that from time to time.

Night Flea Market

It was the night flea market again and we took a look. Haul: a flower vase for 1.50 Euro. And a nice evening walk.

Market in Münster

I took my M8 for a walk last Saturday - and that's the result. Instead of the mushrooms, there was the wild goulash pot that I posted a few days ago. It was also delicious. But somehow, when I look at the photos ...

Hammer Street Festival 2011

Today the street festival finally had some luck with the weather, after it rained all day yesterday. It was very crowded again.

Blues Jam at Bunten Vogel

This is what it looks like when Alexander Goerschel and Tim Abenath play at Bunten Vogel on Tuesday evening (with Bernd Klümper on bass and Andre Werkmeister on drums). Always nice, the evening, good blues and often interesting experiments when those who have never played together before play together again (or Gregor Hilden is there and plays a song that the others have never heard before). It's fun to listen to!

Art Meets Cabbage

This is the strange name of a beautiful art event in Münster, which is taking place for the eleventh time this year. Artists exhibit their works in allotment gardens, public places, and other locations right in the city. In Münster, this usually takes place in Kinderhaus. Juliana and I visited two of the allotment gardens in Kinderhaus (Heidegrund and Bergbusch) today and looked at the artworks and gardens there. I particularly liked Heidegrund, very many flowers and overall wonderfully colorful.

Plots 2011 - Généric Vapeur

The whole show was really a blast of colors and sounds. Quite crazy and loud. The whole show started at Servatii Square and then went through the city center to the cathedral - at the beginning the cars were still white, then they were pulled through the city with a tractor and painted while doing so, then hung on the clothesline to dry. At the end there was still a blessing from one of the artists in a bishop's costume (fits with the cathedral in the background, and in Germany the car is sacred). In any case, it was something quite unusual for Münster - and had an impressive turnout, the whole action was accompanied by large numbers of visitors. If you want a little acoustic impression, I have put together a small film from a few clips I made.

Clockwork in Hiltrup

Forgot all about taking the photos and that they were still in the camera. Well, nothing special, but I find the old clockwork fascinating (I find any old machinery fascinating).

Operation Quiche successful

This time it was a quiche with bell peppers and leeks. I'll skip the explanation of how to make a quiche, as I've already done that here. So the dough and the egg mixture were the same as before. The vegetable filling was simply bacon, leeks, and later bell peppers in the pan. The egg mixture also contained fresh cilantro, and there was plenty of cumin in the vegetables. Since Juliana sautéed the bacon and vegetables this time, nothing was fried. And the dough was - thanks to a bit less milk - also much firmer and more stable. And somehow, we both ate way too much.

Summer Concert Millima Mabonde

Since my sister sings in the gospel choir Millima Mabonde in Nordwalde (and Altenberge), Juliana and I attended the summer concert. The guest choir was Rainbow Glory from Nottuln. Juliana was enthusiastic, even though she naturally couldn't understand the lyrics (she never learned English).

Trip to Enschede

Yes, I know, Enschede doesn't sound great. It's not huge and somehow quite sleepy and quiet (there are coffee shops there, though not as many as in Amsterdam). But it's more than enough for a cozy afternoon - and the last time I was there was probably about 20 years ago. We liked it.

Send in Münster

We were there in the evening - on Fridays there's always fireworks, this time we remembered to go in time. And I was pleasantly surprised how well the NEX-3 performed while photographing the fireworks (manual exposure and focus set, the screen is really helpful for roughly assessing the correct exposure time). I also made a small film to try that out.

A Visit to the Zoo

Juliana didn't know our zoo yet, so we went there today (it's very close to our apartment). A cozy afternoon. Many changes in the zoo that I hadn't seen yet either.

Black Stone Raiders

Already on Friday evening - but only uploaded today. We were at the concert of the Black Stone Raiders with Jean-Paul Bourelly on guitar, Darryl Jones (the bassist of the Rolling Stones) and Will Calhoun on drums. Quite a wild story, the picture is already typical for Bourelly, who really shouts around during the concert. Very loud, very strange in parts. Reminded me often of Jimmi Hendrix (Bourelly is also said to be like that). It was interesting, but I don't think that's my kind of music.

Green Space Maintenance

In Münster, there was once again entertainment in the green spaces (actually already the second weekend this year), the first time for Juliana. We had fun again, my personal favorite was Ruben Grimm, really great music and brilliantly performed. I also made a small video of Ruben Grimm.

Bonn

Drove to Bonn with Juliana - visit to the Russian consulate for documents. Not completely successful, but we then also looked at Bad Godesberg and Bonn, also beautiful.

City Walk Again

Same day as the city harbor, just a bit earlier and in black and white. Also made with the M8 and the C-Biogon 2.8/35.

Around the City Harbor

Just went for a walk with the M8 in the evening and took some pictures at the harbor in the late twilight.

Weekly Market. Even More Colorful.

The riot of colors at the weekly market in the sun is simply great. And the Sony NEX-3 with the 2.8/16mm is at least not so bad in sunshine. However, I still hope that the Zeiss 1.7/24mm will come soon, about which there are rumors - because the sensor can do much more than the lens delivers. And somehow I have the impression that manual focusing with the M8 not only gives me more fun, but also hits better.

Munster. Colorful.

Just a series of pictures from walks in Münster, unsorted and without much commentary.
